Koh Phangan Accommodation

Island blessed with beautiful beaches

Koh Phangan, sometimes written 'Koh Pha Ngan', is a tropical island paradise in the Gulf of Thailand, 12 kms north of Koh Samui. The island has an area of 168 kms sq and a population of about 12,000. Koh Phangan is blessed with over 20 beautiful white sand beaches and has been a favourite holiday destination for backpackers and Thai people since the 1980s. King Rama V of Thailand visited Koh Phangan 14 times during his reign.

Pristine Nature

Koh Phangan has officially been designated as a zone for eco-tourism. 90% of the island is still unspoiled tropical forest containing an abundance of flora and fauna. Off the coast of Koh Phangan there is over 10 kms of coral reef. The preservation of Koh Phangan's natural environment means that there is plenty of opportunity for trekking, mountain biking, snorkelling and scuba diving on the island. Koh Phangan also offers other activities such as wakeboarding, kiteboarding, archery, fishing, wind surfing, elephant riding and paint balling.

Koh Phangan Parties

For many, however, the main activity remains partying: there is the world famous Full Moon Party, the Half Moon Party, the Shiva Moon and the Black Moon Party. The FMP takes place in Haad Rin and the other 3 parties mentioned happen in Ban Tai. They are all well organized events that showcase the Phangan hard psy-trance style.

Beyond the Parties

It is just in Haad Rin and Ban Tai that they turn up the volume. The rest of the island enjoys an idyllic tranquility. The main activities on Koh Phangan are just to enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful beaches; to swim and get a Thai massage; and to enjoy delicious Thai food and then lie in a hammock with a good book. From the remote beaches of Bottle Beach and Haad Khom to the boutique beaches of Thong Nai Pan to the Thai fishing village of Chaloklum to the party beaches of Haad Rin, Koh Phangan has the beach for you.

Koh Phangan has a growing live music scene centered around Ban Tai, Thongsala, Chaloklum and Hin Kong for those who don't like electronic dance music. (See the nightlife section).
